Pretty good film. Milland gives a strong performance. Hopkins is her usual flamboyant self. Williams is good. Abel is fairly wasted.

A cute, simple little get along with a good cast. Esp. liked Henry Stephenson and Margaret Dumont, a couple of good ole' vets. I was disappointed that James Finlayson was not in the credits, neither in his TCM filmography did it list him as the "constable" looking after Ray Milland while he was in jail. Such a great face...no credit but easy to spot.

  • Fantastic Movie!

Wise Girl was absolutely delightful to watch, one of the classic comedies of the 1930s, and seriously underrated. I was lucky to catch it on a classic movie station on a day that they were featuring the films of the marvelous Miriam Hopkins. It's a shame that it is so hard to find a copy of this film on DVD.

  • I love the movie, Wise Girl!

The pace of this movie is exhilarating and amidst all the fun, the message comes through clearly of freedom, camaraderie, the right to teach our kids as we choose and the insanity of a state that imposes upon that especially when the children are doing well (this is going on now more than ever) and the kids are gaining skills a school would not deliver to them, the importance of art and goals, integrity, insouciance. I loved the performance by Ray Milland! Sigh...how graceful and handsome he was. This lady would time-travel in a heartbeat to have my go at winning him. :o)

What a cute, laugh out loud, movie -- I'd really like to own it along with Trouble in Paradise -- maybe a Mirian Hopkins comedy collection. Thanks.
