Amazing film; never heard of it before, but enjoyed it tremendously. I love Melvin Douglas, but was never a fan of Ms. Russell's movies because I felt she was over-the-top. My opinion has changed. As a veteran, and a military wife, this struck so close to home. I cried happily at the end. Will be looking for it to come around again.
Worst written film I've ever seen

You have to be joking with this film. Angst is one thing..... the stuff Rosalind is dealing with would keep a shrink busy for a year. Yes, its 1947.. so the post war introspection is in full swing, but this is just lousy. The over acting is close to mellow drama quality. Sorry.. you like this, you like SCHMALTZ in buckets.

I like both Russell and Douglas, but I kept wondering as I sat through this (fast forwarded through the nightclub scene) if they were fulfilling a contractual obligation and didn't read the script until showing up on the set that day. It seems to be one of those movies where it could end if someone asks a simple question; but they don't and you waste 90 minutes because of it. Nice supporting cast, but still a chore to sit through.
THE BEST FILM NO ONE HAS EVER SEEN

I AM NO GREAT FAN OF THE OF THE FEMALE LEAD BUT SHE GIVES THE PERFORMANCE OF A LIFETIME. DOUGLAS IS AS ALWAYS QUITE GOOD IN A MOST UNUSUAL FILM FOR HIM. FASCINATING AND WELL WRITTEN STORY.I DON'T WANT TO GIVE TOO MUCH AWAY BUT THIS FILM HAS SCENES WHICH WOULD HAVE DONE COCTEAU PROUD.THE WHOLE PACKAGE. GREAT ACTING, STORY, DIRECTION AND PHOTOGRAPHY. WHAT ELSE IS THERE?
