The working title for this film was Army Brat. Some contemporary reviews list the film as Little Mr. Jim. Contemporary reviews indicate that the film was set for a mid-1946 release, but, for reasons that have not been determined, it was not released until April 1947. A February 1945 Hollywood Reporter news item noted that Joseph Harrington was set to adapt the novel for the screen, but his contribution to the final film has not been determined. According to contemporary news items in Hollywood Reporter, some filming took place at Fort Douglas, UT, and in Chatsworth, CA. Hollywood Reporter news items also note that ten days of retakes were shot following an unfavorable audience reaction to a preview showing of the film in mid-February 1946.
