"Underrated Film Noir"
- John McGowan
This movie intrigued me on different levels. At first I thought this would just be another run of the mill B movie but as the plot started to unwind I was drawn in. What pulled this movie together was the fine acting of Ekberg, Carey and Townes. They were believable in a truly bizarre scenario. I thought it amusing that Ekberg wound up in the same sanitarium as her slasher. I enjoyed watching Carey hang out with the police trying to unravel the case on his night beat. Also his editor boss drinking milk and eating a cracker was amusing. Although the story was "out there" it did come together at the end. Incidentally, the ending had a great twist. I liked the atmosphere especially as the camera panned the audience watching Ekberg's act.Definitely a film noir must see.

Great sleazy thriller. Considering Anita Ekberg is not known to be a dancer, as far as I know, she does a great job here.
I was shocked to hear the On the Waterfront music at the end as well, so did a quick internet search -- apparently after "OTW" was scored, the music was added to the studio's library for other uses. Shocking!

Even down to the diminished chord at the end, this is On The Waterfront? Why?

I am aghast to hear "On the Waterfront" music poorly rendered throughout this film! How can this be?
The opening music for "Screaming Mimi"...
