This psychological thriller had me in stitches - probably not the intended effect - but hey, what's wrong with a movie that's just campy, good fun? The melodrama had me engaged from beginning to end. A movie to enjoy with a big bowl of popcorn, on your comfortable couch, and lights turned off on a random late night...
My Kingdom for a Spare Set of Hands(1962)
Well, it was great that they just happened to have a spare set of hands to replace pianist virtuoso Vernon Paris(James Stapleton) injured horribly in a cab accident...hmmm, if you buy the premise then the rest is easy...Only his hands were injured... Based on the film "The Hands of Orlock" ,Stapleton has trouble ,serious mental trouble ...Damaged beyong repair his psyche goes on a destructive rage and mayhem ensues...The film is interesting due to the use of people with complex faces and some good dialogue...Just don't dwell on the logic, which is under the umbrella of "suspension of disbelief." I did enjoy this film, even through the hilarious laughter, it was supposed to be serious, but isn't. 3.5 stars out of 5 for a good try...?
Hands of a Stranger (1962)
- James Higgins
It's a story told several times before it's release as "The Hands of Orlac", this version still holds it's own pretty well. Granted, it does have a low budget but it manages to provide suspense and the cinematography is very effective at times. The acting is fair at best.
