U Boats

The U Boat in this film must have been an extraordinary one, to have followed and kept up with the steamer for so long. The normal speed of a submerged U Boat was 3-4 knots while the normal speed of the steamer would have been 10-12 knots, even if the boat had surfaced it would have lost so much ground that even using its top speed of 12 knots it could never have retained contact with the steamer. Sorry but a serious mistake.

One of my favorite movies of all time! Just watched Sahara, another Bogie gem. I noticed that Merchant Marine Cadet Parker is shown as having the name Robert. I recall distinctly when Joe Rossi perfoms the funeral at sea he says Cadet Ezra Parker. Is it Ezra or Robert Parker?

I humbly beg your pardon, sir. Many of us ladies love passionately the way our beloved country was; with its "rah, rah" attitude of gratitude for those who fought and sometimes, gave their lives for love of this country and the freedoms that were given by God, and handed down by our forefathers. My earthly father fought in the merchant marines. I am proud that he did. I dearly love and cheer as I watch, collect, and enjoy the WWII films. Thank you, TCM, for airing them so often. I love them.

This is the only movie that details what the merchant marines went through. Amazing that a whole branch of service is almost completely unnoticed.

its time gives it its value .but also for our military et all it has great meaning and credit .as a movie a pretty good mans movie.thank you.
