• unbelievably bad plot

  Don't get me wrong, I like this movie but the story loses me immediately when Donald Crisp's character chooses to sell their beloved family dog. If the family was that hard pressed for money they could have found some other way to make ends meet. All the upset anger the viewer is feeling is supposed to redirected towards the dog handler Hynes. I stayed ticked off at Crisp for selling Lassie in the first place. Why not have Lassie be dog napped by Hynes for some reason then the thing balances out. Just saying...

  Quite enjoyed this movie.Delightful Roddy and Elizabeth,great Crisp and Bruce.Cheered on the heroes,glad when the vagrants got theirs.Too bad Lassie was tortured for cutting across some farmer's field because of what some other dog or dogs did to his sheep.Lassie seemed to keep forgetting to limp in spots,but this is a heartwarming flick!

• Very emotionally touching!!

  This is the best film ever made of its particular theme-connection between child and animal-. A wonderful family film touches your emotions. The best performance in this film is by Edmund Gwenn as Rowlie. He demonstrates time and again his adroitness as a talented actor.

• Lassie Come Home (1943)

  I am not too into the Lassie films, but this is certainly one of the best of them. The cast is good, especially a very young Elizabeth Taylor. It's an emotional film, very much a tearjerker. Well produced.

• One of the saddest movies ever!

  R MacDonald, you need two boxes of tissues handy when watching Lassie. When you see those puppies running down the road at the end, ugh, I just started crying again. Or when Lassie has to jump out of the window of the warehouse to get away from those darn men, the floodgates were opened. Beware of this movie if you're an animal lover.

• Lassie Come Home - a real tear jerker

  What a tear jerker!! It's one of the saddest and happiest movies ever made. And to see Roddy McDowall and Elizabeth Taylor in such young roles. Excellent acting, great characters, beautiful scenery, and the dog isn't too shabby either. The comedic timing is perfect, the story superb. If you're seeing it for the first time, or second for that matter, have a box of tissues handy. Thanks TCM for Lassie Come Home.
