A Romantic Glimpse Into the Silent Movie Era
- Jonathan
- 8/29/11
William Haines' best acted role in a movie that is both heartwarming and gives an adorable glimpse into the making of silent movies. The director was very successful in extracting the best range of emotion from the characters. No other picture developed all facets of Haines' personality so well, from bratty kid extra to loving adult. Truly a joy to watch over and over again.

This film is noteworthy due to Marion Davies fine performance as a naive young girl trying to make it in Hollywood. Ms. Davies was a fine comedienne and expert at all types of physical comedy. A cute scene is when a director asks her to react to a man she loves and another she hates. This film is truly a gem of a comedy and even Chaplin does a brief cameo.
