In May or June 1955 I was walking down the Champs Elysee when I saw a Group of men standing outside a hotel.I recognized Tony Curtis and asked him for his autograph which he kindly gave me after we had to ask a waiter to provide pen and paper. I have since lost it but did keep it for many years. One of the other men might easily have been Burt Lancaster but I did not notice. Tony was very courteous and obliging.I did see him about 40 years later in the Mirage in Las Vegas and we chatted briefly.David February 8, 2013

Engaging movie with good stuntwork and cinematography. Lancaster is perfect in these kinds of athletic roles.

Burt Lancaster plays Mike Ribble, the only man ever to do a triple on the high wire. Tony Curtis plays Tino Orsini, the young man who may just be able to equal the great Mike Ribble. Orsini seeks Ribble out to try and get him back up and onto the trapeze after a near fatal accident cripples him and ends his life as a flier. Orsini convinces him that he would be the only man in the world to teach him the triple and be there to catch him since Mike knows all too well the timing that is involved. Enter Gina Lollobrigida who is cast as Lola. It is she that sees the benefit to herself if she can just infiltrate and make a great two man act into a sexually charged and showy flying trio. She cares about nothing but herself. Mike doesn't like her and doesn't want her in the act. Tino is seduced by Lola and takes her part in front of Mike. When Mike tries to teach Tino that he is right about the selfishly deceitful Lola, Tino takes it very hard and becomes bitter. The tension between the players is palpable as the story continues. Be certain to see this wonderful film and you'll be flying high too..

This is one of those forgotten gems from a great era in cinema.Carol Reed captures all the real life struggles, triumphs and romance of the big top.The chemistry between Burt, Tony and Gina is extraordinary, and this display of acting pulls you right into every scene(such passionate actors!).Also worth noting are Katy Jurado as Rosa and Thomas Gomez as Bouglione for there fine performances. Watching this film is like going to see a real circus act.So If you're a fan of Lancaster or Curtis, Don't miss this one.
