Space Race
- Freddy Atkins
- 5/7/11
This movie was a memory flashback for me! I grew up in the early 1960's, and I was fascinated with the entire space program. As far back as I can remember I had wanted to be an astronaut more than anything. I had space toys, space food, space drinks, (Tang), and even a space helmet! I watched all the launches on television and read and collected Life Magazine articles. When this movie was released, I was four years old. I demanded, yes, to see this film, "Countdown" at the theater. I was mesmerized by this film, it felt so real to me that I never forgot it. It still holds true today. It is very realistic, and really makes you feel how these men and women felt at this special time in history. Altman's direction is spot on, and performances by Caan and Duvall are very strong. It may seem a bit dated now, but watch it as I did as a child, whose dream was to go to the Moon. You wont be sorry. I'm only sorry, that I never made it there. After watching this film, maybe it was better that I didn't!

Believably told early Robert Altman film. Good cast of rising stars. ItÂ’s suspenseful and tense. The characters are very well developed.

For those of us who grew up during the Space Race, this was the first serious portrayal of that effort. low budget that it was , it still used some of best character actors to show us a story that reminds us that space exploration like that of the sea's of old , comes at a high price.
