A real treat!

Sidney Toler doing his Charlie Chan but not as Charlie Chan.... just 9 years before his death. The great Ted Healy looking and sounding like himself, and wicked young Robert Young playing straight man team up for a short hour of what for a very amusing comedy/drama flick with a supporting cast of prat-fall characters and a smart-mouth kid to round things out. There are even a couple of Three Stooges sound effects! I found this little known film on TCM while channel zapping. A shame that there is so little information on the movie out there. I suspect that somebody at the studio was either riding a dual wave of Chan and Stooge popularity, or maybe even a pilot that could be expanded and run either as the first of a double feature or long-form replacement for the standard 2-reel ( 3 in this case) mind-candy between the newsreel and a given feature. Not ground-breaking, totally formula for the time, but just a wonderful hour of comfortable fun and featuring familiar movie faces.
