Good creepy thriller with some Hitchcockian elements nicely thrown into the mix by director Brian Hutton. (i.e. parts of this film, whose action is confined to a courtyard separating the front and back entrances of apartments, seem to be an homage to "Rear Window." And there are definite "Psycho" references as well.) And all the reviewers including me agree that Liz does Guignol quite well. So let's give it a solid B. (Laurence Harvey and Billie Whitelaw's characters are a bit too much on the dull side for an A.)

I was riveted watching this gem of a movie. First time seeing it! Very different from the other Elizabeth Taylor movies shown today! (The standard fare). Ms. Taylor was stunning in The Night Watch. I not only see a great actor, but a beautiful humanitarian. Is that rock on her finger from her husband at the time from Richard Burton? Her beautiful costumes from Valentino in contrast to the darkness of this movie plays a character as well. After the brutal murder scene in the end, she exits wearing a beautiful white outfit which signifies to me an innocence, an angel.

  • A great rarity in Taylor`s career

Why nobody schedule that movie in their showtime? It is a rarity and Taylor was excelent in her role even when it was something different in her career. Please add to TCM` schedule !!!!

Elizabeth Taylor is lovely as a woman haunted by betrayal. Full of great gothic atmosphere. She shines as a woman scorned. Also stars Laurence Harvey and Billie Whitelaw.

This is a great thriller, a la 1973, with Elizabeth Taylor at her most beautiful. Used to be on WTBS back in the good old days when it was good watching that channel.
