Arsene Lupin

I just viewed Arsene Lupin on TCM. Of course, the Barrymores are a great pleasure to watch, but I felt Karen Morley stole the movie! The scene of her nude in John Barrymore's bed was a stunner. In fact, all her scenes with John Barrymore were a delight. The actions and fate of her character lend the critical element in this charming pre-code screenplay that elevates the movie to a 5-star rating to my mind. When watching the film, I realized I had heard her voice before - as Mrs. Collins in the classic 1940 Grier Garson/Lawrence Olivier "Pride and Prejudice." But I did not recognize her immediately in Arsene Lupin - Mrs. Collins she was not! A revelation!

Just finished watching this rare film today its not available on DVD or any kind of home video so i decided to tape it through my good ol' DVD Recorder. This film was also directed by one of my favorite director's Jack Conway, would enjoy seeing more of his classic movies on TCM more often.

Funny and entertaining film made just before Grand Hotel. Personally, I find it more enjoyable than the latter, but both are delightful in part to the two male Barrymores being featured together. This one is more like a struggle between the two, both competing for the most impressive acting. What a pleasure to see!And what about those classic pre-code lines? I guess we are left to denote what J. Barrymore means by his love for horses or games "that require TWO people..." Hilarious!Karen Morley was good in this. But what about the bumbling fellow that played Gourney Martin? :D

In his prime, not the later ones that were, to me, sad. I really enjoyed arsene lupin--I had not seen it either, and it was great. I TIVO'd it, but it got accidentally erased--please show it again!

I had never seen this movie but was "pulled in" my John Barrymore. He was very quietly seductive. The entire movie was so intelligently crafted and I deeply appreciate this royalty of talent!! Let us see more of John Barrymore, please! Thank you for showing such wonderful films!
