Great acting, music (Al Kooper), cinematography (Gordin Willis), and sensitive direction by Hal Ashby add up to one hell of a movie. Another classic from the true golden age of film!

The Landlord is one of the best films not to be on DVD & hard to find on video. Without apology, it tells the truth about race relations in America. I first saw it in 1989 after its release on video. I was in my late teens, back when I normally had to stay up late for the Million Dollar Movie in order to see any movie where black folks in dramatic roles. I wish TCM would put this film into rotation so that other would see how relevant this film is.
