I am not a particular fan of Elvis, but he was sure talented. He said this was his favorite movie and he really fleshed out the Danny character...accent, attitude, lone-wolf decisions, singing from a balcony with the crawfish lady and kissing a gangster's gal in front of the schoolhouse...the I-Don't-Care guy. I always love those really seedy nightclubs that go swank overnight because of one good singer. I love glimpses of an era where live people entertained live people in small places with atmosphere. Just saw Dean Jagger in 'Dark City' and he is competent here, too. Carolyn Jones was kind of an 'it' girl at this time and she's great. So is Sister Dolores Hart! I kept looking at the hood and wondering who owned that familiar face. Matthau! What a shock and a half. 4 entertaining stars.

I saw this film at the age of 7 whilst lsquatting on the movie stage in front of the screen ,because there were no seats left in the auditorium. I have seen it many times since and now have the dvd. This was Elvis's best ever I rate it above Jailhouse Rock and Loving you although that's a close second for me.

I would like to make a correction to my previous review of "King Creole". I said the title of the song Elvis sang on top of the nightclub bar was "I'm Evil". I was wrong, the title is "Trouble" by Lieber and Stoller. Don't know how I got that wrong!
Eu amo de modo particular este filme , pois considero uns dos melhores filmes que o Elvis fez e principalmente pela direo fenomenal do Michael Curtiz.

I love this movie. Not enough good is spoken about his movies. He made some great ones and some silly ones, but he was truely a one of a kind. Always the KING. His music will live forever.
Early Elvis Classic

"King Creole" is one of Elvis' best early films. I rate it above "Jailhouse Rock", another of my Elvis favorites. His singing talents are showcased well in "king Creole", and the "I'm Evil" number with him singing on top of the bar is a classic. This is the last film Elvis made before his two-year hitch in the army. Long live the King of Rock in "King Creole"!
simply, one of the best Elvis movies out there!!!!

This Elvis great was one of the movies my brother and I used to live by growing up in Los Angeles. I remember my father telling us about it when were at a young age of 8 and my older brother 13. He always said Elvis was under-rated as an actor....but we knew different. This movie with all of it's inspiring music that I think is one of HIS best movie soundtracks, is the best Elvis came out with. The actors that co-starred, from Vic Morrow to Dean Jagger, and could never forget Carolyn Jones performence, is too awesome to forget. This movie will always be a major league favorite in our family...and the soundtrack that includes a personal favorite: the title song: "King Creole"....too good to ever pas on.....now my 2 childen, ages 9 and 15 are convinced that the "King" always had what we new as young children...TALENT....simply the best. Thankyou TCM for for the opportunity to share this wonderful gift with us. The Montes Family
This movie proves that Elvis was underrated as an actor. The opening scene was just so special-the backdrop & his opening number with Kitty White-no 2 singers can have such different voices & compliment each other so well vocally. All the musical numbers are wonderful & performed wonderfully by Elvis, proving again that he can sing in any genre.
