It's funny, the sword fighting is great, it's well paced, Racquel is as sexy as a Victorian corset, and even Charlton Heston turns in a rare good performance. Hell, even OLIVER REED is likable! Give it a B for breezy.
All-star cast does a 5-star job.
This was actually my 1st cinematic experience with the Dumas classic, & it is STILL my favorite. Heston, Reed & Dunaway make for the veteran "anchors" of a cast who surely righted the "ship" that the '48 Gene Kelley vehicle practically dry-docked. This is certainly one of those films that deserves to get MORE airtime, than it's been privy to. Especially with there being no home DVD versions available.I'm SO glad someone thought to add it onto Faye's "Summer Under the Stars" playlist, because running "Oklahoma Crude" but no "Network" was a little hinky.

I might consider having this version on DVD. It has a star-studded cast including Michael York, Oliver Reed, Raquel Welch, Frank Finlay, Christopher Lee, Geraldine Chaplin, Fay Dunaway, Charlton, Heston, etc.
