Where have you been all my life ? The matron-yikes ! Unfortunately I have met this personality type more thanonce in my life. This film, I think, should be required viewing for women with control issues. The scene where the matron walks through the dorm room and they just start tearing pictures off the walls and ripping anything from them that they love or that brings comfort-wow-it just rips at your insides and yet I want to see it again. And I want others to see it (please ?) It is all so dark .Let us not forget the hose down scene; difficult to watch but I think it an accurate depiction of the dark side of human nature . Something we all need to see; so that we don't go there. Compassion anyone ?

Reform school girls get lessons of positive and negative reinforcement. Paul Henreid far removed from his "Casablanca" days, is Dr. John H. Jason, psychiatrist crusader with a good heart. His methods are to encourage this"wayward" girls, and bring out the good in them through positive reinforcement. The story actually works without being melodramatic or soppy. I say, more shower scenes would create a bigger viewership. Look for a very young and talented Anne Francis. Bernard Vorhaus does a good directing job.Somewhat dated, but the themes still apply today with the breakdown of the family structure. I give this film 3.5 stars out of 5.

So Young, So Bad is a wonderfully bad women-in-prison film that stars Anne Francis, Paul Henried, and very young future film greats Rita Moreno and Anne Jackson. Many women are incarcerated wrongly in this film: that's what the sincere-hearted, sociological Paul Henried is there to rectify. Anne Francis is, as usual, gorgeous and a joy to watch; Jackson and Moreno provide gritty realism. The sadistic matron, a staple in women-in-prison films to come, is solidified here. Don't miss the "hosing-down" scene. Though there are few votes, this film has a major fan base. Please, TCM! Burn a disc, will yuh?
