  • hINDENBURG CRITICS CORRECTED

Your article on Hindenburg was a little incorrect. I never saw a review criticizing the Hindenburg for heroizing Nazis. Scott's character is mournful and ashame of his role in the German air forces destruction of a small Spanish town named Guernica. He lost a son in a Young Nazi action to burn down a German syagouge. If critics found the film heroizing Nazis then they were watching the wrong film or putting their own interpretations to the film. Actually The Hindenburg is an old-fashioned movie mystery with a so-called all star cast. Good actors all, but I still enjoyed watching the gracious acting of George C. Scott and Anne Bancroft. I think director Robert Wise tried to give the production an elegance but didn't quite make it. Also, I can't recall audiences laughing at the film. I worked as an usher at a movie theatre and during the weeks Hindenburg played there as a first run and I never ever heard a titter.

I saw this when I was a kid. It's not bad. But why show it at 8pm when we want to watch great, classic movies, not mediocre ones? Show this film at 2am or 4am, not 8pm.

  • Must see for history buffs...

First off, the Hindenburg crashed in LAKEHURST, NJ not New York City. This was a great 70's disaster flick like the Airport films, Earthquake, The Towering Inferno, and The Poseidon Adventure. Good cast and suspenseful plot. Worth viewing.
