The Gorgon is one of our Halloween favorites. Too bad we can't get it by itself on dvd, and one of my sister's is into Greek Mythology and loves this one. Even with the error of the gorgon sister's names.Hammer films are amongst my favorite horror filmakers, especially this time of year. Why can't we have The Gorgon by itself on dvd? and see it for Halloween this year? 50th anniversary for it next year! Can't wait!

Director Terence Fisher(James Bond) and John Gilling with his only credited screenplay combine for an atmospheric tense taut and engaging look into mythology and the village of Vandorf /countryside. Seven unexplained deaths in 5 years has the populous on edge. Normally people don't turn to stone(gorgonized) and die but they do here... Enter Dr. Namaroff(Peter Cushing) and his assistant Carla Hoffman(Barbara Shelley),who happens to know way to much about the Gorgon sisters, Trivia points if you can name all three before the answers are given. Anyway , in comes Prof. Meister(Christopher Lee) attempting to find the answers to the questionable deaths. All-Star Cast, Cushing, Lee, Shelley with a Director and Screenwriter who are on top of their game. Excellent way to spend your time. 4.5 stars out of 5. Ending could have been tweaked to tidy it up, but that's just me.

Odd entry in the Hammer horror series. No Dracula, no vampires, no Dr. Frankenstein, just a woman with snakey hair. The "monster" is from mythology and stuck in 19th Century Europe. Still she can turn folks to stone and fill them with dread, always an important quality for a gorgon. This is one of Terrance Fisher's most atmospheric films. Good, a bit slow, but well worth a watching.

me and my granddaughter watched this movie along with other hammer movies and we just loved it. something about those hammer movies that just "draws" you in. i know that it's alittle behind the times with the special effects and all but thats all part of it's "charm". my granddaughter just loved this movie and i wanted to get it for her to have so she could watch it whenever she wanted. it's shame she cannot do this....i would like to have a collection of these movies, they are great! whats the problem????? i guess i will have to wait until the next time it is on! can someone tell me if tcm will ever be showing this movie??????? thanks you for your time. cindy
