When bad weather didn't prohibit it, we could get WPIX in New York, and Saturday nights were given over to Chiller Theater, hosted by Zacherley. The Harryhausen masterpiece ICFBTS exemplified everything that a 50's monster could be: impossible, invisible, utterly alien and, when it mattered, a destroyer of American Icons. The Golden Gate, the Embarcadero, nothing was sacred, nothing was safe from those creeping tendrils. Check it out and watch for the lady in the white hat, white dress and gloves that appears at least 50 times in the crowd scenes....
Gripping story for sure!
Man I love this movie. I first saw it late at night on a private channel, that playedclassic sci-fi after midnight on Fridays. That was probably 1972 or so. It took me a decade or more before I could see it again, and then I missed the first part! Not until the late 90's, when the internet started to make searching for info easier, did I finally find itto own. When your 10, stop action looks waaaay better! But this is STILL a classic.
50s sci-fif un!
- Jack T.
When I was a kid in the 50s, I devoured this kind of movie. Couldn't get enough of them. Especially if there was a double feature! IT CAME FROM BENEATH THE SEA was a special favorite of mine. My Dad would take me to see all these films and he enjoyed them as much as I did, I think. I know the effects are antiquated by today's standards yet there is still something about this movie and the others like it that still entrance me. Recommended if,like me, you're still a kid when it comes to 50s b&w sci-fi.
It Came from Beneath the Sea (1955)
I love these type of sci-fi movies from the 1950's. They are so entertaining. This one is better than most, good special effects. It's hokey but great fun to watch.
Wow, is this bad
But it is wonderfully bad. Atomic Octopus attacking San Francisco. Can it get any better?Dead sharks, a love story -- the only thing missing is a 1979 disco dancer. Can't have everything.
Good Sci Fi

I enjoyed watching this movie, it is one of those that actually makes you want more movies like this.
Pretty good 50's sci-fi
- Oliver Cutshaw
I have seen this movie many times and while it has its flaws, it exudes a kind of sincerity and professionalism missing from most of the giant monster movies of the era. Sure its not in a league with THEM or GODZILLA but it does have its fans. Kenneth Tobey does a solid job as always and the Harryhausen special effects meet his high standards given the film's modest budget. And for once the romantic sub-plot actually seems to have some sizzle for a change.
