Duel

Duel is THE best suspense movie Alfred Hitchcock did not make. This movie is a classic & is easily Spielberg's best movie. While to story may seem silly & the dialogue almost non-existant this movie is still relevant today. This movie was ahead of it's time in dealing with road rage which is a bigger problem today than back in the early '70s when this was filmed. I first saw this on the ABC Movie Of The Week series when I was 4 years old & it scared the hell out of me, especially the chase which takes place before Dennis Weaver's character gets to "Chuck's Cafe". I saw that tanker truck in my dreams for the rest of that week. The camera & stunt work are superb & Weaver is great especially when he has car trouble while trying to outrun the trucker toward the end of the movie. His meltdown as his car loses speed on the mountain road after his radiator hose ruptures ranks upthere with his performance in Hitchcock's "Psycho". Don't miss this the next time it runs here on TCM.
