MEN OF THE FIGHTING LADY
- Robert
- 10/5/12
I am the oldest Son of LT j.g. Howard Thayer and I just wanted to add a thing about the Movie. My Father guided Ken Schechter to a belly up landing on an abandoned airfield. Hollywood just wanted to use an aircraft to make it more exciting. My father was killed in 1961, On May 5, 2009 my late father was awarded (promothously) the Distinguished Flying Cross for saving Ken's life. Robert Thayer

What a great movie. I am glad I decided to put a tape in the machine and get this one on tape since there isn't a DVD available at this time. Hopefully TCM will somehow get these great War movies on DVD soon. Oh how I loved John Wayne's films. Anything he starred in was wonderful to me.

I would like to know why this movie is not available for purchase. I'm watching now on TCM channel and have been looking for this movie for my collection of War movies. It is truly a classic, always enjoy it when ever I can catch it on TV.

This movie is just as dramatic and compelling as the other movie from James Michener's other novel of about Naval Aviators and their experiences during the Korean conflict. You could not get a better mix of emotions from the fighter pilots who were right there in the thick of things. The special effects and models interlaced with real footage is very convincing and effective. Definitely a must-have for the collection of period military aviation film buffs.
