Planet of the Apes
- Dashiell B.
- 2/13/13
One of the most riveting, intuiging & exciting sci-fi films ever made. An astronaut finds himself on a planet where evolution has flipped & apes are the dominant species. Heston's part is in contrast to the larger-than-life characters he has played, McDowell, Hunter & Evans give great performances under the ape makeup. John Chambers won an honorary Oscar for creating the ape makeup; the story adapted from Boulle's novel makes strong themes about class segregation & man inhumaity to each other. A satiric & thrilling delight with a truly unforgettable ending. I give it a 5/5.

Classic sci-fi with a moral message and twist at the end. Incredibly influential, it launched a whole series of movie sequels, an excellent (albeit short-lived) television series, and an entire cultural craze. It was THE sci-fi fan-pleaser before Star Wars came along. Roddy McDowall was nothing short of brilliant and the make-up was top-notch. In contrast, the Tim Burton reboot was a travesty that should be forgotten. "Ape" Lincoln. Puh-Leez.

This movie for some reason was a child's delight. Strange because it's pretty grim stuff. But great OH so Great! Channel 2 in NY in the early 70's. Kid heaven watching "Chuck" Heston kick ape butt. This was really a very elaborate "Twilight Zone." God bless both Heston & Rod Serling. Serling was a true genius at talking about man's inhumanity. "Does man still keep his neighbor's child starving." Amazing movie. Exciting & thought provoking!!!!
