- Jim Smith
Fine musical numbers throughout featuring Cugat, James, Linay Romay, Helen Forest and others. Forest was a huge star at the time as a pop female vocalist and I was a huge fan. Easter Williams doesn't get into the swim scene until late but the scenes are worth waiting for. She and the other swimmers are awesome.
Bathing Beauty (1944)
- Mr. Blandings
Wafer-thin plot and characterization, with muscial numbers that grate on the ears, this is one weak movie notable only as Esther's first leading performance. Unfortunately, one also sees the start of Esther's misfortune of being saddled in a string of films with inexplicably ubiquitous Latin singers like Cugat and Ramirez. Why the Latin connection? Because Esther swims??? Makes no sense. Red Skelton once again proves to be completely humorless and directionless in his "comedy" bits (where's Danny Kaye when you need him?) His scene with the violent ballet instructor Madame Zarka was painfully (no pun intended) unfunny and unconvincing. The noise produced by the organ playing woman is unschooled musical mayhem at its worst. Only watch this film if you can hit the fast-forward. *

Love This Film For Basil Rathbone,Mainly
May not be suited to Baz,but I like him in this film,it's fun.Love Red's antics
What I've seen of this movie, I loved. Would you please put this film on schedule to be shown again in the near future? Also, I would purchase this film if I could get it on a DVD by itself. Thank you TCM. You are my favorite station.
My grandmother at her finest
My grandmother was Esther Williams' swim double in this movie. Pat Dean(her true first name was Patricia), became quite the aquatic stuntwoman of her time. Found in my grandmother's drawers were movie stills from MGM that included her contributions to Bathing Beauty as well as Creature From The Black Lagoon, Sea Hunt, Paint Your Wagon, and An American in Paris. I am so proud to be the only grandchild of such a beautiful, talented actress and stuntwoman. Owning & watching this movie is not only entertaining, but also a piece of my family history!
Swimming at its best
- Nick Cannella
Shows not only Ester Williams at her best of beauty, charm and intellect, but also Red Skelton character of not only wit but his serious side. This is one of the best classics. Both are great! Ester, nice job inspiring the millions to swim and keep physically fit (specially important in this 21st Century). Red, nice job helping people keep healthy with laughter(the best medicine).
