i can't say enough good things about this movie, like another reviewer i also saw this movie as a kid in 1969 when first released! i was always interested in w.w.II but this movie got me into the real history of it all. I love the film and the aircraft in it, i think it is bar far best aviation film ever made, its a terriffic story, very close to the truth, wonderful score! that relly help send this movie! also most of the stars really wanted to be in this picture because they wanted to be part of this history making film. not to mention a lot of origional pilots wanted to see it done too! this film set standards for other simular war dramas, patton, tora!tora!tora!,a bridge too far etc.but few films capture the sprit, the feeling and the awsome power of war as this movie does, a great movie made at the right time, its one of the top war films of all time! my rating**********

I saw this movie in the late 60's as a kid when it was released, I loved it. I consider this one of the best war flix and soundtracks ever made(I consider this my favorite movie). Anyone who researches into how the movie was made will have a greater appreciation for it. I have collected some of the movie memorabilia and I still look for items related to this movie. It was disappointing when the first DVD was released with the alternate ending, which was fixed in the collectors edition DVD to choose the original movie ending. A great movie for any aviation buff. And remember, Never fly straight and level for more than 30 seconds in the combat area.

This was the first feature-length film that I saw on TCM. I thought it was really good. It had exciting battle scenes and a lot of good British actors. I will view it again during 'Summer Under the Stars.'
