Okay but no world beater

The movie features the handsome, young, dynamic Richard Burton, Peter Cushing, Frederic March, and a cast of thousands but it never gets past being a rather dull pageant with a few interesting scenes. Not sure why. Lead review says its too talky. But as the more recent Alexander movie showed, it is rather hard depicting Alex the Great. At times in his life, Alexander seems almost super-human at other times he seems to have been a spoiled maladjusted teenager. Is he a rebel without a cause or someone like Marc Anthony? So part of the problem for an actor and for the audience is how to relate to this rather extraordinary man, the screen plays just don't do service to this towering legend. No one seems to have solved that puzzle yet.
