  • Standard storyline ; but still captivating

Although this movie has a standard scenario that was and has been used thousands of times, it is still a good version with great singing. Also, it is entertaining to see Buddy Ebson before his Georgie Russell days, and Leo Carillo prior to Pancho on the Cisco Kid TV. Thes actors are sometimes forgotten.

  • Lovely Film, Lovely Music

The TCM article on this says that Jeanette MacDonal preferred Alan Jones for her co-star in this and she was right. Eddy doesn't have the right look for the character, but he has the voice! Lovely songs, great supporting cast. I can't imagine anyone but Jeanette and Nelson singing Romberg's songs - except also Alan Jones. Anyone who likes MacDonald & Eddy will enjoy this film.

To whom it may concern; To me I'd rank this as one movie that has to be in my collection. And I mean that!!! I watched this movie this morning and could not pull myself away from both of their voices. And even the dancing scene at the Govenor's mansion was spectacular! I have to have this movie!!! Just like the eyes of those gold miners I sat there amzed at what I was hearing. So PLEASE do me the favor of placing this movie into a DVD package so that I can buy it please. And to you that do not know me I pride myself in buying only the best of movies for my collection. The ones that I find that I can watch over n over again and again.

I don't often say I love a film, but I have to say this is one of them. The movies of Jeanette and Eddy are just wonderful, full of subtlety, redemption, fabulous music, and genuine romance. It is like watching a dream. A truly great story. I hope they put them all on DVD. I thank TCM for showing this wonderful film that is historically compelling and lovely to behold.

I bought this movie after seeing Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald in Maytime. Girl of the Golden West has the same absolute magic between the stars (they are remarkably talented and attractive and the chemistry between them is beyond anything I have ever seen in any other movies). I thought the scene in the courtyard with the horses and dancers and Nelson Eddy singing, was just amazing. The interplay between Ms. MacDonald and (a very young) Buddy Ebsen was truly sweet. I wish they could make movies of this quality today, but of course, you would need amazingly talented people to begin with, and stars of this quality simply don't come along very often (Oh, so this is why they call them stars. Now I finally get it).

  • Great History

Sirs; This movie has great history, dance scenes, the singing of Janette and Nelson. There are actors in it that started the movie industry and naturally the backing of MGM in it's hayday of musicals and direction of perfection. I'll buy 5 DVD's if produced. SS, Joe Haas
