  • Missed the very end!

DVR'd this from TCM and was so happy with the movie, the lady of the house had just returned with the money from the sale of her jewelry -- and the DVR was finished! Disappointing. The movie was so interesting because the father in the family must have done something right in the early days of his nearly-grown children. They missed him so while he was gone (even though their current social calendars didn't leave room for him) AND that they were willing to go out and try to remedy the supposed financial "ruin." Each saw his own part in wasting the family fortune. Sweet.

A sweet domestic comedy. Mr. Arliss' makeup seems to change from scene to scene, he has a lot of lip color one minute , practically stage makeup, and the next minute he looks more natural. But his acting is always good.George Arliss is often remembered for a few misfires on film, like the sound version of the Man who Played God, but he is an excellent and versatile actor, and his domestic comedies from the early 30's are especially enjoyable. Thanks to TCM, we can see why Arliss , and many others were truly excellent character actors.

What a charming story of family life! Excellent charactor development and a fine story line, with a very uplifting theme.
