  • one of those movies you regret watching to the end

    • daniel m collins
    • 8/15/14

I always Liked James Garner so the fact he was in it sucked me in... What a Waste of Film Stock, nearly Impossible to Follow the Plot, the ending didn't answer ANY questions, THATS when i yelled at the TV "This Sucks"! Great actors and actresses in the movie and they played their parts well, But the screenplay, i understand based on a book was i guess, Above my Pay Grade in order to understand what was happening and why. bottom line....TOO ARTSY, the writers Never let you INTO the story... they should Re-Make this movie and let ME FIX it, i have No experience doing this and it seems THEY didn't either.

If you like the movie / also if you do not / you should read the novel by Evan Hunter,on which this movie is based on.it gives you more insight and makes you enjoy the movie the more.James Garner was great,as was jean Collins.MHO.J.P.e.

  • Confusing

I "got in" when he 1st interacted with Fiddle--then all of a sudden they were "together" four years--then she was pregnant--then almost jumped off a bridge--then he was with Jean Simmons etc. This is a good example of why some movies need a brief synopsis before it starts (except for the ending).

  • Drawn out and aimless...

    • G. Porterhouse
    • 9/15/13

A very boring slog of a movie, almost saved by its gritty and wonderful shots of Manhattan.Marred by pretentious editing and a nonsensical/non linear plot,James Garner awakes in Central Park with no memory of who he is or how he got there.A must-see if you are a fan of films made in New York and can endure the convoluted story.

  • A NY Treasure!

    • 2/17/10

This movie is just as much about New York as the characters and the story!A beautiful film in Black & White with actors that make this film one I cannot forget! If made available, I would purchase it in a NY minute!!

  • Rejection of life

    • Bob Roesser
    • 10/16/09

The story dramatically brings out the tragedy of rejecting life especially by abortion and how regrettable it is to those that participate.

  • ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES- EVER MADE!
