BACK TO BATAAN
I agree with Melissa . This was NOT a propaganda film. It was what was happening at the time. A friend of mine called the war Total Madness. Rightly So. During the Bataan Death March many of the soldiers who surrendered were shot by Hired Conscripts, Not necessarily regular Japanese soldiers. Doesn't justify it or excuse the murders. Insanity rained supreme. On the other end of the islands, prisoners, were put to work at the air fields etc. and at days end, would go to the local bars, pubs, where, Japanese soldiers would be and talk things over, like home and families. Kind of a, so how was your day at work today? If this information is wrong, I am sincerely sorry, and would like to hear back regarding what I was told. At wars end the Pacific Islands needed civilian police forces and as U.S. and British service men wanted to go home, who did they arm, and give authority to keep civil order? Former Japanese soldiers. I sincerely hope I have not offended any service men or women, as this was NOT my intention, only to show the insanity of war.
What is it with the fake British and Australian accents these days with the woman whom introduces the films? It is irritating to listen to. Hollywood is fake enough as it is. The woman's sincerity is lost and bad taste!!!! And why are so many reruns played? There is enough films in existence to watch without reruns. Sorry I made you say... "just turn the channel buddy"!!!!! However I love this channel!!!!

I agree about the political commentary being inserted, was that really necessary?I understand there will never be another Robert Osborne, that being said very dissatisfied with some of the "hosts" that have introduced films and their lack of expertise. Was glad they don't feature people like David Letterman, Tina Fey, etc.they added nothing to commentary.thank god for Ben Mankiewicz. Thanks for listening. Susan
TCM Calls this Propaganda?
The young woman you had introducing this movie described it as a 'Propaganda' movie and afterwards went into the political backgrounds of actors and directors. Who is Ted Turner hiring these days for these intro's???
BACK TO BATAAN
Great film, excellent acting. John Wayne s low key, dead on serious in this one. The school teacher played by Bula Bondi again a terrific part. If Gen.Wainright had done his job and held a rear guard action, instead of surrendering thousands of troops that were shot or starved to death, the war might have been shortened. He should have been court martialed for cowardice.
Back To Bataan starring John Wayne
Great movie. Saw it at least 20 times. I never get tired Of John Wayne. The acting in this movie is really good, especially Beulah Bondi as the school teacher. One two movies that has Wayne fighting in the Philippines, the other is They were expendable.
