Tom, Dick and Harry (1941)

This is one weird, whacked-out film. Janie is a brainless twit who you can't see any one man wanting to propose to, let alone three, and Ginger Rogers' dopey performance straddles the line (just) between movie watchability and unwatchability. It's not a film I'd imagine I'd want to sit through more than once. That said, the movie has about a dozen or so laugh-out-loud funny moments, mainly due to the wit of Ginger and Burgess Meredith. While it's far from being a great Ginger Rogers film, I can honestly say that it's the best Snirgor Greeg movie I've ever seen! ;)

If anyone but Ginger Rogers had played Janie, I don't think I'd want to see this movie again, but she performed the rather ditzy girl with such warmth and subtlety that it made the film worth watching. For anyone who loves Rogers, this is a great viewing experience!

"TOM, DICK AND HARRY" IS A FILM ABOUT A GIRLS DREAM TO MARRY A SUCCESSFUL MAN. GINGER ROGERS STARS AS THE GIRL WHO MUST CHOOSE BETWEEN THREE MEN WHOM SHE WOULD CONSIDER TO MARRY; TOM (GEORGE MURPHY), DICK (ALAN MARSHAL), AND HARRY (BURGESS MEREDITH). ALTHOUGH ENGAGED TO GEORGE MURPHY, GINGER SEEMS TO QUESTION HIS QUALIFICATIONS. AROUND THIS TIME SHE ALSO MEETS BURGESS MEREDITH AND ALAN MARSHAL, AND THEY BEGIN TO APPEAR MORE QUALIFIED FOR THE JOB THAN GEORGE. BETWEEN DREAMS, GINGERS FLOATS BACK AND FORTH ON WHOM SHE WANTS TO MARRY. AFTER TAKING HER TIME FIGURING ALL THIS OUT, SHE DECIDES THAT GEORGE MURPHY IS THE LUCKY MAN TO WALK DOWN THE AISLE WITH. IN REAL LIFE, THIS MIGHT HAVE WORKED OUT WELL FOR THE OFT-MARRIED GINGER, AS YEARS LATER GEORGE MURPHY LEFT HIS SUCCESSFUL CAREER IN HOLLYWOOD TO BECOME A SENATOR FROM CALIFORNIA. "TOM, DICK AND HARRY" IS A FUN MOVIE, AND THE CAST DOES A FIRST RATE JOB HERE. THE BEAUTIFUL GINGER ROGERS IS OUTSTANDING, AS ALWAYS, AND GEORGE MURPHY TAKES A BREAK FROM DANCING AND DOES GOOD AS WELL. BURGESS MEREDITH IS HIS USUAL FUNNY SELF, AND IN FACT NEARLY STEALS THIS FILM AS HE OFTEN DID IN HIS GREAT CAREER. BUT THE REAL DEAL HERE IS GINGER ROGERS, AND THIS LESSER KNOWN MOVIE OF HERS IS A FUN ONE TO WATCH!
