Thank You TCM for showing LET FREEDOM RING On 7/4/2009. This wonderfuk little MGM has an inspiring message. Beautiful singing and very good acting from Nelson Eddy. The idealism is very real because it reflects Nelson`s real life idealism and patriotism. Nelson`s solo 'Dusty Road"-Just Beautiful. Would you please continue to show the films of Nelson Eddy as part of your programming schedule and not keep them locked up in the vaults? I hope that LET FREEDOM RING will eventually be released on DVD. Lorraine Chandler Athens, Texas

  • MUSIC AND THE AMERICAN SPIRIT

Let Freedom Ring (1939), I find in several writings, was one movie Nelson Eddy highly enjoyed doing as it puts him in one of his favorite milieus other than music, that of a reporter; he worked as one in his youth and enjoyed it In the movie, it could be said that his singing and the song lyrics are so stirring of the American spirit that they could surely overpower -- and do -- the clanking of railroad trains and the corruption of the "financiers" of the time. His co-stars are such that we could not ask for better. I know, most fans wish this had been a movie with "the team", I do too, still it is not difficult at all to like charming Virginia Bruce as Nelson's partner here. And Nelson, a two-fisted, expert horse back rider, college graduate, local hero sheds his often princely attire, and even gets dirty in a fist fight, does not let us down. Today, the mystery is that Let Freedom Ring is the ONLY NELSON EDDY MOVIE not on DVD!!! I know, I have looked high and low. It appears now that this is all up to TCM -- I am counting on them.
