  • Having Wonderful Time ... Yeah, I wish.

Ginger Rogers is very beautiful in this movie and that's the best thing I can say about it. Other than that the film is as annoying as it is unfunny. Douglas Fairbanks Jr is hopelessly uncharismatic, Lucille Ball is boring (and you know a movie isn't good if that happens), Jack Carson is completely wasted in a five-minute long, unappealing role, and Red Skelton ... words can't begin to describe how humorlessly irritating he is. By the end of the movie I wanted to grab a backgammon board and beat some sense into all (and I do mean ALL) the stupid characters in this film, Teddy included. Truly a complete and utter waste of time. * out of *****

Actually the screen play, as I understand it , was much watered down for the film. But the acting is delightful, the atmosphere reflecting the Saranac Lake resort...and the times were, shall we say, more innocent than today? Certainly the thoughts were the same....but the manners were observed....if stretched a bit. Yet the characters then, as now, still reflect the aspirations of most middle class couples. Everyone wanted the happy ending, a fact that was not lost on depression era producers..who insured just that result. And who would not want the happiness for the young Ginger Rogers, and the young Douglas Fairbanks Jr.? For awhile Rogers was the highest paid actress in Hollywood...and her box office draw had much to do with her undeniable charm and innocence. Later she developed in a pretty solid dramatic actress, winning an Oscar in 1940, for her strong performance as an unwed pregnant heroine.

This really is a wonderful movie for those who enjoy old movies. It showcases the early talents of those who went on to be legendary such as Ginger Rogers, Lucille Ball, and of course the dashing and heroic Douglas Fairbanks,Jr. I am so glad that TCM aired this movie. Trust me you'll have a wondeful time watching this one!

I think this movie is really cute!!! The cast do a really great job in it. The storyline is good and the film is really funny!!! Ginger Rogers and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. both do good and are great together. I really suggest a fan of either one should see it!!!

I watched this movie for the first time today. It had so many stars from that era of movies. Similar to "State Door" with most of the stars that are on Having Wonderful Time. We are collectors of these type of movies. Again, Great Movie.
