  • Guy Madison, Yummy!

Guy Madison was gorgeous!! He's as gorgeous as Paul Newman, or William Holden were or the Brad Pitt's of today. My goodness! Somewhat of a wooden actor but, oh well. I really enjoyed this movie, it was very good, and very natural. Glad I took the time to watch it. I did notice the mistakes that a previous reviewer commented on, they were pretty obvious and pretty bad.

An otherwise very good and often heartwrenching post-war drama unfortunately dragged down by Guy Madison's rather poor perforamce in the film's central role. Even director Dmytryk spoke to Madison's lack of ability. Rightly overshadowed by "The Best Years of Our Lives" but deserving of attention nonetheless.

This movie is on par with "The Best Years of Our Lives" in telling what the returning veteran went through after WW II. With the many veterans returning from the wars today this movie will give people some understanding of what they have to do to adjust and get back into the civilian role. Highly recommend it.

One of my all time favorite movies. Watch for some inconsistancies: Cliff Harper tells his father how much money he has, but the amount changes when he tells his friend Tabeshaw.Helen Ingersol meets Pat Ruscomb and calls her Pat, but later in the film only calls her Mrs. Ruscomb. When they visit Perry (who is in bed) the different camera angles show a view from behind the headboard, but later, the headboard is aginst the wall. This movie is very underrated. It is excellent. I wish I could be Cliff Harper for 24 hours.

I was lucky enough to see this movie today 10-28-08. Men returning from war is timeless, 1946, myself 1966, men today 2008. The year doesn't matter, the movie is timeless as men have these same problems today, great picture, hope to see it again.

I haven't seen this movie for a long number of years. I couldn't remember the title, but I knew all the actors, and then I remembered Perry Como singing the song and here I am. I would love to see it on TCM and or purchase it on DVD or what ever. One of the best, of course I love Dorothy McGuire.

This is a wonderful film which unfortunately gets no respect. The reason for this is that it is inevitabley compared with The Best years of our Lives. The Best years of Our Lives is, of course, a wonderful film. But, Til The End of Time is also a wonderful film which is well worth seeing. It begins with Guy Madison and Robert Mitchum being discharged from the Marines at the end of World War Two. Guy Madison returns to his upper middle class home in the suburbs. His parents aren't home, so he goes to his old hangout, the soda shop and bar. He meets Dorothy McGuire, a war widow . He goes to her home where it becomes obvious that, although they are attracted to each other, they both have unresolved issues in their lives which are a result of their war experiences. Madison then leaves to go home to see his parents for the first time since he enlisted. His parents, particularly his mother, wants him to go back to being the young boy he was when he left. He, of course, can't do this. The war has changed him to much.He later starts a tumultous relationship with Dorothy McGuire, which is complicated enough. Then, Robert Mitchum shows up. He has become almost a drifter or homeless person. He has not been able to reintergrate himself into civilian life. Mitchum and Madison attempts to help William Smith, a fellow veteran who has lost both his legs. Smith has given up on life and just stays home, being taken care of by his mother. The four of them cling to each other and begin to drag each other down, rather than help each other. The rest of the film deals with the way they resolve their problems caused by the war. This is wonderful film which is well worth seeing, regardless of the comparisons with The Best Years of Ourt Lives. The symbolism is very well handled and the acting is excellent. Don't miss it.
