Five and Ten ... a hidden gem
- Mike M
- 5/16/13
"Five and Ten" is a terrific film that should be much better known. The very young Leslie Howard already shows why he became one of the screen's greatest actors. All the actors are splendid including Marion Davies and Kent Douglas, an extremely handsome and talented performer who unfortunately remains largely unknown. The totally engrossing story is taken from a novel by Fannie Hurst, perhaps most famous for her twice filmed novel "Imitation of Life." Thank you TCM and Robert Osbourne for rescuing this wonderful movie from obscurity!

I have a major crush on Leslie Howard, that started after watching him in Pygmalion. I think he was a wonderful actor, very entertaining, great voice, and cute. This is one of my favorite films of his. Leslie and Marian made a good duo and its very entertaining.

I started watching this movie when you had it on in the wee hours... I feel asleep before I could see the end. It looked like a great movie and I would love to see it again. I was going to buy it and it is not for sale.. Please show it again.

Wow

I started liking Leslie Howard in Pimpernel, found him charming and interesting in It's Love I'm After; but this one I'm painfully attracted (and I'm NOT into blondes). Leslie and Marion Davies both sizzle on screen each moment they're together, and IMO steal the show. Some of these scenes -- particularly the one in the hotel room -- where his bottom lip curls over his teeth as you hear the door lock, when he asks her to put some clothes on, as he goes to run out of the room, Marion whistling after a kiss, their shared looks-- they were wonderful and make for a VERY entertaining couple on screen. Well worth the watch, and damn it, this should be available on DVD. Click that little vote button. It's too cute. My only gripe would be a few lines and a car would have been better than a plane. Otherwise, I'm keeping my eyes out for this must-own pre-code humdinger. ;) Wowza! Submitted by: Kat
