• Better Than I thought

  I too watched the first 20 minutes and lost interest. Bette Davis movies though are like magnets to metal for me and I was drawn back to it. glad I did and it is very good. I never heard of this movie before, but it is now one of my favorites.

• Bette Davis and Henry Fonda Fare

  This film has quite a bit of script for both Davis and Fonda to sink themselves into. Their characters are nothing like those they played as a pair in "Jezebel." They are in love but Davis' past gets in their way. But that's not how the film winds up. There are many interesting twists to this drama that provide both lead actors plenty of space to showcase their acting skills. Definitely great on screen chemistry is created between Davis and Fonda.

• Henry Fonda and Bette Davis

  Bette Davis plays a young woman with a jaded past who's working hard to overcome it. Henry Fonda plays the handsome guy who comes into her life. After a host of twists and turns, Davis and Fonda are driven apart. But, not before she's carrying his son, which he has no idea about. He marries a woman with disabilities who cannot bear children. When they reunite, Davis feels so much compassion for Fonda and his wife, she gives the boy up to his father and his invalid wife. But that's not how the story ends. Davis does a remarkable job acting out so many different emotions. Fonda makes a great love match with Davis. Better than just a good film because it has decency as a central theme strung throughout the plot. We could use a lot more of that in films.

• Davis and Fonda find chemistry

  This film was released right before "Jezebel." Davis and Fonda were paired together in both. Although "Jezebel's" considered more classic than "That Certain Woman," the on screen chemistry between Davis and Fonda is more titilating in this film. Their romance is a truer kind of love. Fonda has more scenes in this film; whereas, "Jezebel" is more centered around Davis. My point isn't that this film is better: it's underrated. Fonda and Davis are a great acting team with near equal acting abilities. That shows up more in this film.

• That Certain Woman (1937)

  Bette Davis is always terrific, even in her smaller pictures. Well acted, good simple story and professionally directed. It's nothing outstanding, but it never failed to hold my interest.

• Better Then I Thought

  I try to catch any Bette Davis movie. However after the 1st half hour of this movie I felt I would not be interested and stopped watching. However I felt drawn back to watch it(I TIVO'd it) and I was glad I did. The real "meat" of the movie starts in the middle thru the end and overall it was quite good.
