vintage warner bros. low budget melodrama but still an interesting enough film not to bore. WB movies almost never bore. this was a remake of a film made six years earlier, called 'the irish in us'. in that movie pat o'brien was the lloyd nolan character with james cagney being the craig(peter gunn)stevens character. after years of studying warners movies, i've found that the b-movies minus the bigger name stars almost always had a happy ending and with no one in a major role being killed. basically it was a human interest drama, not too heavy, with enough comedy provided by the studios stock character actors to be an enjoyable feel 86 minutes or so.

This is one of those movies Warner Bros. cranked out by the dozen. Two brothers, one beautiful girl and a dangerous job, with winds howling, collapsing bridges ohhh you get the picture. The reason I particularly love this movie is that long before TCM was even around, I watched this movie late at night at my Grandmother's House with the usual popcorn and Pepsi.

Typical '40s movie What grabs me, being a movie buff, is that Jackie Gleason was an uncredited diner employee, and I could find no credit for him, anywhere. He was quite young in this film. Where are the mavens and pundits?
