  • Remake of a 1936 original

    • Jarrod McDonald
    • 5/30/10

The original version is also called SMALL TOWN GIRL and was made in the 30s with Janet Gaynor & Robert Taylor. Much of the plot has been retained, but the characters' names have been changed (don't ask me why). This remake has the great S.Z. Sakall and Billie Burke, but the original has some excellent supporting players as well, like an early Jimmy Stewart before he graduated to leading man roles. I recommend both of these on a rainy afternoon. :)

This amazing work of art depicts energy seldom expressed by young men of today's genre. The young so called "intended" of our tender star Jane shows some amazing indefatigable energy if in fact the film is a valid record of his dance prowess. And of course the wonderful ever loving sweet hungarian we all know and love so much down through the years adds to the tender and delicate theme of the movie.please make this a dvd available the jane powell collection.
