  • Murder in The Clouds...Interesting Fare....

Three Star Bob Halsey (Lyle Talbot) a high flying pilot with few restrictions in his playbook, unwittingly becomes involved in a spy plot , A secret explosive forrmula has been stolen, and Judy Wagner( Ann Dvorak) also becomes a victim of the plot when her brother Tom is mysteriously murdred in a midair airplane explosion, and the missing cylnder with the "secret formula" is transferred into her possesion. What makes this film work is the airplane theatrics and flying scenes photographed by Elmer Dyer. What doesn't work is the hackneyed storyline about Bob's gambling and 3 days of incarceration, and some of the dialogue phrasing and plot holes. But that being said, It gives us a great view of California in the 1930's, in all of its' glory, before pollution and over-population. Lyle Talbot, one of my favorite all-time actors. I once saw him at a theatre -in-the-round as Merlin the Magician . He was terrific, and that was in 1980. So I recommend "Murder In The Clouds" as entertaining fare. with beautiful scenery, even in black-and-white, it still shines through. Runnig time about 60 minutes. Pretty scenery.
