Great Movie Except...
Great movie assuming TCM could show it proper. Twas on 2/18/13 and just pixilated and skipping on Cable TV. Nice job TCM! How to botch 3 hours of programming! Yeah! There is a reason I dont watch TCM much, this happens somewhat frequently. Not another channel do I have a problem with.

An outstanding James Garner / Cherokee film ( he never made a bad movie). The Super Pan camera work is stunning. Film follows the lives of a band of four drivers across Europe, detailing the ups and downs of mixing racing and their personal lives. Has a stellar cast, offering to both sexes. The moviewas really about racing first and foremost, yet they did not neglect to work in the difficulties the womenof racer's faced. Jim actually is driving in almost all of his footage. Does not matter what it may or may not have grossed, it works and film buffs love it - really is all that matters. (Warning: there are some mature - very difficult scenes - especially concerning the young boys - way too close to the track).
Ultimate Sports Flick

Even for non F1 fans, this film offers something to savour -unforgettable cinematography, top drawer performances by Montand and Garner leading a stellar cast, gorgeous locations, en exquisitely majestic film score, superior sound and film editing. Realistic and riviting, it gets my nomination for the best sports classic ever made. Realistically compelling in tragedy and trumph. While I always look forward to watching it on TCM, I emailed a local classic film venue requesting it be shown in a full scale theatre setting. Marnie Howell
Edge of your seat action. Probably the most technically accurate racing movie to date and all completed without Star Wars era computer animation. The story line is deep; a racer at the end of his career, one chasing the big win and one making a comeback. It also focuses on the technology of the teams and their owners and coaches hungry for the Grand Prix title.
Great racing movie
The plot is quite simple, like a soap opera, but the scenes from the racing tracks are absolutely great. The speed, the sound and no studio shots with backprojection or the like. Frankenheimer did a very god job, blending scenes from the real races with shots of his disguised F3 cars manuevered by the actors.
One of the top two racing flicks

Great cinematography, good story with all the sub plots, well cast, outstanding racing movie. The synopsis is flat wrong. When Sarti crashes at Monza, the Enzo Ferrari character, Manetti, black flags Nino, calling him into the pits and withdrawing his team. He did not lift because he was stunned, he quit on the instructions of his team owner.

A real plot and unbelievable access to the Formula 1 "Circus" allowed John Frankenheimer to create a master piece.Real F1 drivers mixed with great actors, racing circuts and cars blend together for a romantic look back to a mid 60's world championship season.Fiction and fact come together to create a story that is remarkable authentic. If you like F1 then you must watch this movie again and again.
