Synopsis

In California, sometime before annexation, Juan, accompanied by two followers, becomes known as a bandit who preys only on the Madera family, because of ill treatment accorded his mother by Pedro Madero. He robs Don José at a tavern celebration while his father is away escorting the beautiful Anita, betrothed to José. Juan meets the party, and, as a reward for saving Anita's life, is invited to the rancho for the fiesta. The guests are alarmed to hear that Juan is actually the bandit enemy of the family; Anita, attracted to Juan, resents her coming marriage all the more when she surprises José in the arms of a former sweetheart. Juan fights a desperate sword battle until Don Pedro learns he is his nephew; they are reconciled, José is discredited, and Anita is betrothed to Juan.
