She is mainly known for being the second ex-wife of the late actor Tony Curtis. But this european actress besides being a great beauty has been working in films since she was a child. Christine Kaufmann's films are not well known in the united states although she has worked with many famous american stars like Yul Brynner and Kirk Douglas. She also worked with her late husband Tony Curtis. In her first major american film "Town without Pity" opposite Kirk Douglas her obvious talent shone through. She played a young german girl raped by three local GI's. Kirk Douglas plays the prosecuting attorney and in the scene where he totally tears apart her credibility also her reputation is terrible to watch. Her slow realization that Douglas is undeniably tearing her life apart with such cruel intent causes one to watch the intensity of her reaction. She is at first confused as the facts are turned around with her very words of testimony ringing hollow as Douglas cross-examines her. The smirks and laughter in the courtroom build to a crescendo while Kaufmann has to relate not only what happen to her but the brutal aftermath. Her own father sits with cold stone silence as if seeing his only child for the first time. Kaufmann starts her testimony with what seems like confidence although by the end of the ordeal she has totally unraveled to a sobbing devastion. She falls to the floor with little effort like a dying swan. Kirk Douglas may have been the star but the teenage Kaufmann stole the show undeniably. Her other films like "Taras Bulba" and "Wonderful and Wild" with Curtis show a flair for romantic comedy as well as costume dramas. After her divorce to Curtis she was a single mother to their daughters Alexandra and Allegra. She continued working and developed a line of beauty products in europe. She is still fabulous looking at sixty-six and her other performances in film are equally compelling to watch. Like "Escape From East Berlin." Please play more of her films!
