without a doubt..
- Bill Gedeon
Karloff, is my all time favorite..not even close..first time I saw him, as a kid, 'the body snatcher'..scene at the end where his limp, dead white body hangs on to henry daniell, scared the hell out me..in my teens it was 'the mummy' that grabbed me..i eagerly awaited the viewing of 'frankenstein'..and it was worth the wait..'bride of frankenstein' was even better..also enjoy as much his non-horror roles..'night world', 'behind the mask' & 'criminal code'..i also admire him for being a founding member of the screen actors guild..card #9..by the way he should have won an academy award for 'the body snatcher'..he was a great actor & presence..
Boris Karloff and Hank Azzaria
- J. Langella, Jr.
I have for years been a huge Boris Karloff fan and was really struck when watching the Night at the Museum movies with my kids, that Hank Azzarias' "Pharoah" character is impersonating the unique voice of Boris Karloff. Nice to see his influence remains.
I hugely respect and admire Karloff as an actor. My introduction to him was via his legendary narration of The Grinch. I enjoy watching his movies, he had an elegance and effortless grace in many roles -- be it because of his wonderful voice, mannerisms or style or combination of all. He was incredible!
Mime your own business

Boris had such a wonderful voice that you forget what a marvelous physical presence he brought to his films. I notice in many of his films that it is the way he smiles or holds his hands that gives eloquence to a scene. Wonderful actor.
KARLOFF is THE KING
I have 105 of his films and marvel each time I view any of them. THE GUILTY GENERATION is a lost classic and one of my major wants (the others being GRAFT, YOUNG DONVAN's KID). I was not disappointed when I saw it. Now if someone could come up with the TV version of ARSENIC AND LACE (starring you-know-who), I'd be completely happy and feel my life was fulfilled. Come on you research guys dig into the archives. I'd like to hear your story of how you first saw the King.
One of Hollywood's most important performers

There isn't enough room here to say what I already have in my two books on Boris: BORIS KARLOFF: A CRITICAL ACCOUNT... (McFarland, 1991) and BORIS KARLOFF: A GENTLEMAN'S LIFE (Midnight Marquee, 1999). Boris has been my favorite actor since the age of 5, and I rank him higher as a truly GREAT actor with each passing year.
One of the greats.

When I last saw "The Black Cat", as Bela intones Poe I wondered, "How can you possibly act opposite this guy?" Then Boris makes his appearance and the answer becomes clear: Boris can. He was a superhero. I can catch "Bride" time after time and still marvel at what Karlff did. He gave a great pantomine acting performance. Boris Karloff was one of a kind, surpassing many one-of-a-kinds. He was the first actor I was able to identify and the first actor whose films I sought out. I remain a fan.
