Kaczmarek has reportedly suffered from migraines which have caused her to miss filming of episodes of "Malcolm in the Middle" on occasion. When she suffered an occurrence in spring 2002, there was speculation that the actress was using her sick leave as an attempt to negotiate a pay increase, a charge that was denied by her spokeswoman.

She goes with her gut to keep things running. part of what makes their kids so crafty and clever is that she's such a commandant, they've got to be really ingenious to get away with their antics."
