He is at his best as the Southern sage, keeping the audience informed of the coming events in the movie.

Arthur Hunnicutt has always been my most favorite actor. His backwoodsman roles were always the epitome of true perfection.

I'm only familiar with two of Hunnicutt's films- El Dorado and The Tall T. I saw him first in El Dorado as Bull the sidekick to John Wayne. In the earlier Rio Bravo such role was played by the great Walter Brennan. Hunnicutt stands up to both Wayne & Robert Mitchum in a believable way. He is a colorful, funny character actor. Such roles are very important to leading men like Wayne and later Randolph Scott (The Tall T). My guess is that Ed Rintoon's courageous/wreckless act in The Tall T represents the height of Hunnicutt's film careeer. Before such scene he displays a sense of humor and good comic timing. I look forward to the other gem performances of AH. Rintooonnnn!

Probably one of the best character actors for old time westerns. His style and delivery of lines and overall appearance lent credibility to his roles. His lines in the Big Sky with Kirk Douglas were classic. Reminds me of Gabby Hayes. Very memorable.
