In Crow Springs, he finds out that Ace Gatlin (Forrest Taylor) is running a land office under suspicious circumstances with Ann Williams (Nanette Parks) innocently serving as his assistant. As the Durango Kid, Steve learns about the fraudulent land swindles and that Gatlin's men stole the gold.

U. S. Marshal Ted Cameron, masquerading as a bandit, robs a mail coach. Delores Mendoza, a passenger, is an agent for the Mexican government, assigned to investigate a counterfeiting and smuggling gang operating below the border. She joins forces with Ted and his sidekick, Rockabye Jones, and together they expose the gang and bring them to justice.

In Elliot's initial appearance as Red Ryder, he finds himself framed for murder. Little Beaver then foils the crooked Sheriff's attempt to have Red killed excaping jail. When Hannah Rogers gives the Sheriff a note, Red sees her give him a signal. Gabby lifts the note and Red decodes it. The Duchess then gets a confession from Hannah enabling Red to set out after the outlaws.
