She started her on-screen career in 1986, both in film and on television, and by 1988 she had a frequently-recurring role on the crime drama "T. and T.," starring none other than Mr. T of "Rocky" and "The A-Team" fame. In 1989, Disher landed another major supporting role, as Mana on the action sci-fi TV series "War of the Worlds," which ran two seasons. After a few more brief TV parts, in 1992 Disher earned one of the biggest roles of her career, as Dr. Natalie Lambert on the horror-mystery "Forever Knight," a German-Canadian production shot in Toronto. That same year, Disher landed a major voice-over part, as the voice of Jean Grey on the animated series "X-Men," based on the Marvel Comics creation of Stan Lee. Disher provided voiceover for all five seasons of the series; she would go on to provide voices for various "X-Men" video games, all the way into 2001.
