On his weight: "I tell people, if you really want me to look that good, why don't you cough up about two million more and hire Alec or Billy? If you want ME to do it, this is what you get." --Daniel Baldwin to Us, January 1994.

In February 1998, Baldwin was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after a drug overdose. He was later downgraded to stable condition and placed under arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia. Baldwin pled guilty to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct in June 1998. In the October 12, 1998 issue of People, he contributed an article about his relapse and its personal and professional costs.

About his much-publicized relapse: "Believe me, I know my life is still in danger. I no longer kid myself about that. But I've never stayed sober for the right reasons before. I did it for my family's approval, for people in the business, my career, to make money--whatever. And it was all bulls--t.

"This time I'm doing it for me. I'm not staying sober for any other reason except I want to stay sober. If any drug is even around me, I just leave.

"I have too much to lose. If I stay sober this time, who knows what could happen? I'm looking forward to finding out." --Baldwin quoted in New York Post, October 28, 1998
