Somewhere In The Night
- Chris Sember
- 2010-10-20
A splendid actor and human being! He grew up a working guy, who overcame his Slavish accent by reading parts catalogs at his job in a Hamtramph auto parts warehouse. Hence, his great voice and perfect diction. He didn't forsake his family, moving his parents into a brand new house in Tarzana, CA. You can see his humanity leap off the screen in the role of George Taylor in "Somewhere In The Night." Ironically, his career was given a jump start after an early discharge from the Army due to hypertension. One has to believe it was not a free pass, considering his early death from heart disease. In my book, Hodiak's the man!

John Hodiak was one of the most underrated actors of our time. Talented, charismatic and fascinating to watch, this man is right up there with many other well known classic actors, in my opinion. He could do so much, even sing! That's right, you can find a deleted scene from The Harvey Girls where John sings with Judy Garland on Youtube. He had a lovely voice! I always look forward to his movies coming on T.V. Such an incredibly handsome man as well. What a shame that we lost him so young.....

Hodiak was sensational in The Harvey Girls. I loved him. It's sad he didn't rate very high in the 50's. He was excitingly handsome and with a look all his own. Hope you show more of his movies if any. Thanks for giving your fans such great pleasure.

Powerful Performer!

To suggest that Mr. John Hodiak was merely a good actor, would be a gross understatement! His intense style of acting, coupled with his charm and good looks placed him among the ranks of such immortal artists as Clark Gable, Spencer Tracy, Robert Stack and many of the other truly great performers of all time! Indeed, for a brief time, the producers of the motion picture "LAURA" had considered John Hodiak for the lead role in the Film, prior to casting DANA ANDREWS in the lead. Other great Film roles would come Mr. Hodiak's way including starring opposite Clark Gable in "Across the Wide Missouri". An actor's actor ... that was JOHN HODIAK!
