Later, Tucker announces a run for the Senate and Dave decides to run against him. When Marjorie Ransome (Coleen Townsend) kills a drunk in self-defense, Julia returns to Jericho to work with Dave, now in private practice,on Marjorie's defense. The still-resentful Algeria moves to kill Dave's senate bid when Tucker's newspaper announces that Dave is being sued for divorce, with Julia named as correspondent.

Gloria Dobson (Jane Frazee) is finding it hard to become a night club singer in New York because she has "no name". Introduced at a night club by bandleader Ted Weems, the trio is a hit. The Greenvale trio begin a theatre tour with their dance, now a national sensation. The craze soon dies out and Johnny stays in New York to try for another chance at fame with a dancer, Nona (Edna Sedgwick), while the other two return to Greenvale. The new act soon flops and Johnny returns to Greenvale and is met by Snookie, Satchel-Lips and the town band, who escort him to a new and lavish service station built with the money earned from "The Baltimore Bubble."

Undercover agent Mark Owens (Charles Quigley) is sent to aid the Border Patrol in the trans-border town of Hernandez in breaking up a well-organized band of smugglers. Since the town is also noted for a place for obtaining quick marriages on the Mexico side, Mark obtains the job of pilot on "The Honeymoon Express." He does not realize that he has been recognized as a G-Man by "Hot Cake" Joe (Herbert Heywood), operator of a sandwich stand and an informant for the smugglers. Reporter Nancy Rawlings (Rosalind Keith), assigned to the airport on the American side of the border, sees Mike running the matrimonial express in his flamboyant uniform, and thinks he is ridiculous enough to make a good story. Her suspicions are aroused when he refuses to be photographed. She is further convinced he is a smuggler when she sees him accepting money from Kurt Feldon (Russell Hicks), suspected head of the smugglers. Feldon has accepted Mike as a genuine pilot for wedding parties and is paying him to steer customers to his cafe. Learning the truth from Joe, Feldon orders his henchman/flyer Blast Reardon (Marc Lawrence)to get rid of Mike. Blast, with a gang moll as his accomplice, charters Mike to fly them across the border to get married. A waitress at the airport, who Nancy has bribed to watch Mike's activities, tips her off about the flight and Nancy hides in the plane. Once in the air, Blast forces Mike to land at the smuggler's hideout, where he is imprisoned.

Led by the murderous Ash (Jack Clifford), the hired guns of Stiles kill Clayborn and his wife (Mary MacLaren) but their young son John (Bradley Metcalfe Jr.) survives and joins his grandfather in Austin. As the boy grows into a man he learns the use of a law book as well as a six gun, intending to use both to bring Stiles to justice. As lawyer John Clay (John Wayne), he travels to the Cottonwood headquarters of Stiles, self-proclaimed King of the Pecos, and meets Hank Matthews (Arthur Aylesworth) and Josh Billings (Herbert Heywood), two cattlemen thrown into poverty through the crooked dealings of Stiles. John serves a summons for Stiles to appear in court but the circuit judge (James Marcus) is too frightned to face the might of Stiles. John sends Hank to round up other impoverished cattlemen, and they provide the judge with an armed escort to Cottonwood. The judge upholds the ranchers' pleas for use of water and grass, and Stiles sees most of his ill-gotten gains turned over to public domain for proper filing. Stiles convinces newcomers Eli Jackson (Edward Hearn) and his daughter Belle (Muriel Evans) that John is trying to cheat the ranchers and file claims for himself. He also plans an ambush for those riding through the canyon to file claims and he sends Ash and his gunmen to the hills, instructing them to shoot anyone without the white arm bands he has supplied to his own riders. John discovers the plot and has the ranchers to also wear white arm bands, ensuring their safe passage. With their claim successfully filed the ranchers plan a cattle drive to Abilene where the railroad is promising $20 a head. Stiles steals whatever cattle he can and moves his outlaws to Sweetwater, where he hopes to extort money for use of the water there from the trail drivers. When the drive reaches Sweetwater, John confronts Stiles, revealing that he is the son of the murdered Clayborn's and that Sweetwater rightfully belongs to him. Following a siege by John and the ranchers, Stiles tries to escape by buckboard, but when the wagon tips over he is crushed by the safe containing money he has stolen from others. John pursues Ash into the rocks, offering him a chance to draw first and then ills him. John leaves his gun and his quest for revenge at the site and turns his mind to Belle and his law career.
